Music As A Time Machine ...

While not possessing a single drop of musical talent, music has played an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. I can hear a song and it instantly transports me to a place in time, in my life that can be bursting of emotion. I can hear "Panama" and be transported to Cocoa Beach in the summer of 1985 with my distant cousin taking me to Ron Jon Surf Shop. I hear "Force Ten" by RUSH and I am remembering a road trip with my buddy Jeremy and Ken. I was living in the Florida Panhandle at the time, Destin area, when memorial day weekend a hurricane was bearing down on us. With us being the intelligent youth that we were, we were determined to not that storm ruin our holiday weekend. We piled in my VW GTI and were New Orleans bound! Blasting "Force Ten," all along the way.

These short, often vivid transports are induced by the time and place where music made a memorable mark in my life. I am not per say transported by lyrics by the memories associated with hearing the song for the first time or at a impressionable time.

These temporary lapses in reality can induce, elation, fear, sadness. I remember some very dark Metallica songs getting me through those rough high school years. When I hear "Welcome Home, 'Sanitarium'" now, I am instantly back in the 10th grade. I now fully grasp that those days were not the worst days of my life, and while there would be good and bad to come, relatively speaking to a 16 year-old, things were terrible.

I know that my love affair with music is not unusual by any means, but I am amazed at how vain some people are when it comes to music. You ask them what the lyrics mean to them, and their response is, I just like the beat. Music is an emotional experience something that touches the very core of what we are. There are songs, or certain performances that will give me goose bumps from head to toe.

I challenge you to create your time machine memories.

Backwards ...

With a multitude of Governments looking to increase their revenue stream I started thinking. Why are we rewarding people for the burden they place on society? Burden you say? Yes burden! Let’s start with children. You see these families with gaggles of children, the Duggar’s and Gosselin’s come to mind, but who pays to educate these children? Society that is who. Now before you go playing Jump To Conclusions, I am a parent. However I think instead of giving parents a tax deduction, I am thinking we should increase the tax burden for each child. I think the paradigm has shifted from people taking responsibility for themselves and their actions and this may be a great way to reintroduce it.

Open Letter To The Food Network ... Enough Fucking Cake!

OMFGWTF? Seriously Food TV, I know most of American is grossly overweight, however we do not all appreciate the shift to 24hrs of Cake! The occasional “Cake Challenge” mixed in with the staples, Emeril, Tyler Florence, Alton Brown, Bobby Flay, Paula Deen, etc was a nice break. However the dynamic has shifted where occasionally something worthwhile is sprinkled in amongst the multitude of Cake Shows.

Enough! Bring back decent, helpful, informative cooking shows or dissolve the network entirely and become a production company and peddle your Cake Shows to networks that need to fill dead air.

Pot, meet kettle ...

Seems like president FuckWad is at again running his piehole about shit he knows nothing about. I am not speaking perse about purchasing a boat or a Vegas vacation, but more to the subject of Fiscal Responsibility. This guy puts the ass and clown in assclown.

Wait, What, Seriously?

So it appears President Teleprompter is out of touch with not only his constituents but his country’s safety as a whole. He wants to pass a budget that spends money we do not have to create jobs, but wants to cut jobs and put our borders at risk. This current government preaching fiscal responsibility is like a dealer running a Say No To Drugs campaign.

What is this halfwit and his crew of cronies thinking? He wants to beef up border security in … Honolulu, San Francisco and Massena? Seriously? How about Nogales, Yuma, Mexicali, TJ, San Diego, El Paso, Brownsville, Miami?

President Kennedy would of not been as successful or fondly remembered if he had served his full term. I am starting to think this is the only way President Teleprompter will go down as being a great president as well … if we base it on “what ifs.”

Rabbi Shmuley a wise fellow …

I have caught the show Shalom in the Home on TV and I have always been impressed with the wisdom Rabbi Shmuley shares with the couples. I am an atheist, I do not ever see anything changing that. But I have a great respect for the religious that are wise, loving and honest. It is a breath of fresh air to see a deeply religious person love all man and not belittle those that are not in alignment with his beliefs.

I had a friend at work today ask for some advice on marriage. A friend of hers had strayed from his marriage and asked how after 8 years my wife and I are still together. Obviously what has worked for us will not always work for others I told her. Then I remembered Rabbi Shmuley and pointed her to his website. Prior to this I had only seen the TV show and never listened to his podcasts, read his articles or books, this intrigued me and I decided to learn a little more, myself.

I am glad that I did. I have downloaded all the podcasts and read several of his articles and look forward to reading some of his published works. As admirer of Hitchens and Dawkins I am particularly interested in digging deeper into the debates between these men.

Charisma the dangerous trait …

So the sheeple where conned by charisma and charm by President Teleprompter. I was doing a little reading today on sociologists Max Webster. Wiki has a list of leaders that are classified as Charismatic. I would dare say President Teleprompter is not in the best of company.
